About Us

Our Vision

Redefine wellness and lead the paradigm shift to bring back joy, compassion and flexibility to the conversations that shape how we act, live and show up in our lives.

Our Mission

Encourage self-discovery to live a purposeful life through inspirational, actionable, diverse, accessible and interesting ideas.

Why We Exist

Theory & Practice exists to empower you with the resources, tools and ideas to embark on the journey of self-discovery.

We believe self-discovery before self-improvement, understanding before doing, theory before practice, has the power to change your life.

A Note from our Founder

Theory & Practice was born out of a personal need for a wellness platform that was less focused on behavioral change and instead more focused on empowerment.

I believe the 2010s and recent years were ruled by a wellness era that crowned self-improvement and bettering yourself as the source of fulfillment. I absorbed much of this ethos and worked myself to the bone, physically, mentally and spiritually. I adhered to the propaganda splattered across the internet to find the perfect version of myself.

My pursuit of perfection culminated to a point during which I was doing everything “right” or at the very least, everything they say “you should do” to feel good: training for a marathon, eating healthy, excelling at work, reading for fun, nurturing relationships, etc. Yet despite all of this, I was unhappy.

In search for someone or a platform to preach that I didn’t have to do everything or anything, I was instead bombarded with “That Girl” Tik Tok videos or very aesthetically-pleasing, beige, bland and minimalist web pages that screamed “perfection” from wellness brands and publications.

With the help of therapy, a loving support system and a strong desire to feel good again, I stopped looking outside for help. I stopped doing and I started being. I accepted my feelings.

I got to know myself better. I discovered parts of myself that I didn’t know existed. I unearthed other parts of me that had been buried. I thought about what the future could look like if more focus was spent on self-discovery instead of self-improvement.

What if we encouraged self-discovery over self-improvement? What if we got to know ourselves better? What if we embraced curiosity, depth, imperfection and compassion?

My hope for this platform is to be the place you find ideas and inspiration for your journey of self-discovery.

Thank you for being here.
